DriveBeam

Your comma four drives, on your iPhone.

DriveBeam uploads completed drives from your comma four straight to your own iCloud, then plays them on your iPhone. There is no DriveBeam server, account or subscription.

Set up from your iPhone

Park with the car off. You don’t need a laptop.

  1. Put the comma on the same Wi-Fi as your iPhone (with internet), or turn on Personal Hotspot and join it from the comma.
  2. In DriveBeam, tap Set Up comma from iPhone: on the Add Your comma screen during first setup, or later under Device → Add Your comma.
  3. Tap Copy this iPhone’s key, then Paste it on GitHub to add it to your GitHub account’s SSH keys.
  4. On the comma, open Settings → Developer, turn on SSH, tap SSH keys and enter your GitHub username. If one was already set, remove it and enter it again so the comma picks up the new key.
  5. Tap Install and Pair. DriveBeam installs the uploader, connects it to your iCloud and confirms a check-in from the background uploader before showing it as paired.

Requires a comma four on sunnypilot release-mici, an iPhone signed in to iCloud, a free GitHub account (the comma accepts SSH keys only from GitHub), and internet on the comma during setup.

Help

“The comma didn’t accept this iPhone’s key.” Add the key on GitHub, then enter your GitHub username again on the comma under Settings → Developer → SSH keys.

The comma says “No SSH keys found for user …”. The comma needs internet to read your keys from GitHub. Connect it to Wi-Fi or your hotspot first, then enter the username again.

“No comma found.” Keep both on the same Wi-Fi or your hotspot, check SSH is on under the comma’s Settings → Developer, and allow DriveBeam under iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network. You can also type the comma’s IP address from its Settings → Network.

Uploads stopped after an update. Run Set Up comma from iPhone again. It updates older uploaders and repairs and restarts the background service while preserving your upload queue.

“Waiting for first check-in” after pairing. Install the updated iPhone app with uploader 0.2.3, then while parked run Device → Add Your comma → Set Up comma from iPhone → Install and Pair. This repairs the background service and verifies an iCloud check-in. You do not need to unpair first.

Does the comma need the setup Wi-Fi? After pairing, any supported internet connection can carry uploads. Drives already uploaded to iCloud remain available when the comma is off; recordings still only on the comma need it powered on and connected to upload.

Comma stays Offline after you drive again. Offline while parked is normal: the comma switches itself off about a day after the car is turned off. If it is still Offline a few minutes after you start the car, open DriveBeam or tap Device → Refresh comma access. The comma picks up the new access at its next check-in.
