DriveBeam

Privacy policy

DriveBeam sends your footage only to your own iCloud. DriveBeam has no server, and the developer collects nothing.

Where your data is stored

Drives uploaded by your comma are stored in your iCloud account, in DriveBeam’s private CloudKit database. Apple stores and encrypts this data under your iCloud terms. If you turn on Advanced Data Protection, Apple’s documented coverage for CloudKit applies. The developer of DriveBeam cannot read your private database.

DriveBeam has no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting SDKs. It does not create an account and does not ask for your name, email or location. DriveBeam does not change what sunnypilot or comma.ai upload: they have their own uploader, which may send logs and preview video to their servers under their own policies.

What is uploaded to your iCloud

DriveBeam adds no GPS, location, CAN logs or audio. Original preview files from the comma may contain audio if recording audio is enabled in sunnypilot.

Public data

For each comma you pair, DriveBeam’s public CloudKit database holds one record. It contains an encrypted package that only that comma can open, a timestamp, and iCloud’s standard record metadata, which includes an anonymous identifier for your iCloud account that is specific to DriveBeam. The record name is derived from the comma’s key. Tapping Unpair in the app deletes the record. It stays if you remove the comma without unpairing in the app.

How long it’s kept

You choose how long drives are kept (7, 30 or 90 days, or until your iCloud budget is full). When the budget is full, the oldest drives are deleted from iCloud first. If your iCloud storage itself is full, the comma also deletes your oldest DriveBeam drives to make room, even if you set no budget.

Deleting a drive in the app removes what is in iCloud at that moment. If the comma is still uploading that drive, the remaining segments upload and the drive reappears; delete it again once uploads finish.

Copies on your iPhone (videos you play, drive thumbnails, downloaded originals and clips) stay until the cache is trimmed, iOS clears them, or you tap Clear Downloaded Videos in Settings, which removes all of them. Deleting a drive does not remove copies already on your iPhone. Clips you save to Photos or share leave DriveBeam’s control.

On your comma

DriveBeam never changes or deletes the recordings on your comma. When a comma is paired, DriveBeam can upload any recordings still on it, including ones made before DriveBeam was installed. If the comma is paired to another iCloud account, that account can receive those recordings. Before giving away or selling your comma, unpair it in the app and delete its recordings, for example by resetting the comma.

Unpairing tells the comma to delete its iCloud access at its next check-in (about every 5 minutes while it is online). Until then it can keep uploading. If it is offline, the access it already holds keeps working until it expires.

To set up a comma, the app keeps its own SSH key on your iPhone, and you add that key to your GitHub account. To revoke it, delete the key from your GitHub account, then on the comma open Settings → Developer → SSH keys, remove your username and add it again (or turn SSH off). Until you do, the comma keeps accepting the keys it already downloaded.

Deleting everything

  1. In the app, tap Unpair for each comma. This deletes its public record and stops its access.
  2. On the comma, run sudo bash /data/drivebeam/current/scripts/uninstall-comma4.sh. This deletes DriveBeam’s queue, keys and iCloud access from the comma. Your recordings are not touched.
  3. On your iPhone, open Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Storage → DriveBeam and delete its data. This removes all drives, settings and device records.
  4. Delete the app to clear its cache.

Children

DriveBeam is not directed at children and collects no personal information from anyone.
